Robert Barnby is a contemporary furniture designer with a workshop based just outside the picturesque town of Hay-on-Wye in the shadow of The Black Mountains.

Barnby Design began life in 2012 when Robert, a graduate from Nottingham Trent University, decided to produce a range of furniture offering a fresh take on the mid-century style.

Much of his work is influenced by Scandinavian and Japanese design. Clean lines and subtle details are characteristic of Rob’s style, and can be found throughout his work.

Since his collaboration with Dutch architect Alex de Rijke on the Wish List Project, which led to the design of a table displayed in The Victoria & Albert Museum in 2014, Rob has been working on new pieces to expand his own collection.

Rob exhibits his work at furniture shows in London and customers are welcome to make an appointment to visit his workshop/showroom on the English-Welsh border.

Robert is passionate about bringing natural materials into people’s homes. To find out more about his latest designs and day-to-day life in the workshop follow rob on instagram @barnbydesign.

Many of our larger items are made to order. This gives you the opportunity to tailer the design to suit you and your home. Fabrics, finishes and sizes can often be personalised. So please do ask.

We may have some of the smaller items in stock, in which case they will be dispatched without delay. Otherwise our lead time is between 3-5 weeks on smaller items, and 5-10 weeks for larger pieces.

On the placement of an order we require a 50% deposit which secures the next available build slot. The final balance is payable 2 weeks prior to delivery.
